The legendary treasure of Hell Gate
They were looking for treasure. They found something even better instead: happiness.
New York City, 1927. A drunk dies under the Hell Gate railway bridge. His body is found by five children from East Harlem known locally as the Roaches. Why? Because they’re poor, get by on scraps and are generally unwanted by society. Their names are Mario, Tommy, Lucy, Amy and Rico. Rico is the one who makes the first big discovery when he rifles through the dead man’s pocket and comes across a matchbox. Not an ordinary one though. This one has a drawing and a steel key tucked inside it. These tiny items turn out to be the first of a series of clues in an epic treasure hunt, the prize for which are seventy chests packed with gold bars. A bounty which amazingly ended up on the bottom of the sea in the hold of the British frigate HMS Hussar (a true historical event) when it sank trying to navigate the Hell Gate passage in 1870.
- A story of friendship, mystery, and redemption in the heart of roaring 1920s New York.
