Sandokan. The Tigers of Mompracem

Adventure

A classic of adventure literature.

The Tigers of Mompracem is the first book in Emilio Salgari’s Indo-Malay Cycle. It tells the story of Sandokan, a young pirate and the sole surviving descendant of the royal line of Borneo, overthrown by European invaders. Nicknamed the Tiger of Malaysia for his daring and bravery, he leads a band of pirates from across Southeast Asia, known as the “tigrotti”—men willing to fight for him to the death. Sandokan can also rely on his dearest friend, Yanez de Gomera, a young Portuguese adventurer. Together, they embark on a breathtaking quest to reclaim the kingdom that was taken from him. And, entirely unprepared for such a turn of fate, Sandokan encounters the love of his life, Marianna—the niece of his sworn enemy.

  • A story that Pierdomenico Baccalario, one of Italy’s most acclaimed contemporary authors, has revitalized through a skilled process of refinement and streamlining.
  • A tribute to the grandeur and enduring appeal of Salgari’s storytelling.
