Integrating films into the teaching of secondary school
Cinema in Italian schools is often an unwelcome guest. Unwelcome because the use of cinema as a teaching and learning experience has never found a permanent place in the curriculum. It is an unwelcome guest because it is a multimedia educational resource that is difficult to place, difficult to fit into the school context, and even hard to understand. It’s time to turn this “unwanted guest” into a valuable travel companion.
- Bridges media literacy and curriculum needs, with adaptable tools and examples for real classroom use.
- Makes a case for cinema as a pedagogical language, not just a supplement — fostering student engagement through narrative and visual analysis.
