A distant war. Two girls divided by their beliefs. One choice that changes everything.
The Vietnam War is tearing public opinion apart in the United States. The Backer family has taken a stand against the American military intervention, and their younger daughter, Carol, faces the consequences at school: she’s unpopular, isolated, and excluded. At the start of the year, a new student arrives—Judy. Her brother Harry has volunteered for Vietnam, her father serves in the army, and she’s never really questioned whether there could be an alternative to war. But when news comes from the front that Harry has been killed, Judy’s convictions begin to crumble.
- A powerful reflection on youth activism and the freedom to think for oneself.
- The social climate of the 1960s told with clarity, empathy, and emotional depth.
